Acquire Art Photographs

A relatively recent form of art, photography is increasingly present in art galleries. Some, like IGWT, are even dedicated exclusively to this artistic field. Buying or gifting fine art photography has therefore become both popular and fashionable. But what exactly is fine art photography? What gives a photograph its value, and why should you acquire it?

IGWT aims to shed some light on these questions.

What is Fine Art Photography?

An art photograph is a photograph taken by an artist and printed by them (either directly or under their direction). The photograph must also be signed and numbered, meeting specific criteria that distinguish it as art photography.

However, there isn’t a strict artistic definition or technical criteria for what constitutes fine art photography. Primarily, it is a photograph with artistic expression—a photo that reflects the unique perspective of an artist and describes the world through their eyes. It is a photo in which artistic research and creativity are evident. Unlike photojournalism, fine art photography allows the artist’s sensitivity and creativity to be expressed, letting their personality shine through in their works.

Why Buy Fine Art Photography?

There are many advantages to buying or gifting fine art photography. Firstly, it is an imperishable present. A photo can last as long as you want, becoming a part of your heritage and being passed on to heirs. It is also a “store of value” property, detached from market fluctuations, and its value may increase over time along with the artist’s reputation.

However, an art photo is above all a work of art that will beautify your interiors and elevate your everyday life.

When Buying a Fine Art Photo

When buying a fine art photo, it’s important to ask yourself what you are looking for. Is it to enrich your collection, make an investment, or decorate your apartment? Depending on your answers, you can then browse the catalog of IGWT, which represents promising young photographers like Alessandro Piredda, established photographers like Cássio Vasconcellos, and world-famous photographers like Douglas Kirkland.
