ALESSANDRO PIREDDA

Alessandro Piredda: Capturing Architectural Essence Through Photography

Born in 1974 in Riccione, Alessandro Piredda lives and works in Misano Adriatico. His passion for the history of architecture developed during his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Rimini. Surrounded by the iconic monuments of classical Italian architecture from a young age, he eagerly absorbed all related information. The illustrations by the Fratelli Alinari studio for textbooks became his first source of inspiration. Piredda soon realized that it was the perspective in architecture that fascinated him the most. Additionally, his admiration for the renowned Italian designer Albe Steiner cultivated in him a strong sensitivity to sober, graphic, and elegant forms.

After completing his studies in art and architectural history, Piredda pursued graphic arts and photography in Ravenna to develop his own artistic project. For Alessandro Piredda, photography became a medium that allowed him to unite all his passions in a single frame.

“Darkitectures” is a pivotal series in Piredda’s body of work. This ongoing project focuses on the most iconic buildings, presenting them in a new light. Through his lens, he reveals another life of these well-known monuments, isolating them from the usual crowd of tourists. These buildings emerge from the shadows, evoking a sense of a parallel universe and an impression of eternity. His intelligent use of lighting effects and pure lines defines the essence of his work. Piredda’s unique artistic vision with “Darkitectures” earned him a spot as a finalist in the Sony Photography Awards, and the series was exhibited at Somerset House in London in 2017.

Since then, Alessandro Piredda has regularly participated in Italy’s largest and oldest art fair, Arte Fiera, while continuing to photograph some of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
