Kyriakos Kaziras: Capturing the Magic and Fragility of Our Planet

Kyriakos Kaziras, born in Athens in 1966, discovered photography at the age of seven when he received his first camera. With a painter for a paternal grandfather and a photographer for a maternal grandfather, Kaziras developed a strong affinity for art and picture composition during his formative years.

After his family moved to Geneva, Kaziras learned French and later studied French literature at the Sorbonne University. During this time, he continued his passion for photography, using a second-hand Praktica medium-format camera. After graduating, he initially worked for a company specializing in staging shop windows, but his passion for photography soon drew him back.

During a trip to Zimbabwe, Kaziras felt a profound urge to photograph the vibrant African landscapes and wildlife. This trip transformed his photography hobby into a lifelong passion. Since then, he has traveled the world, capturing the beauty and fragility of our planet through his lens, photographing both people and animals.

Artistic Vision and Preparation

Kyriakos Kaziras approaches photography with a strong artistic vision. He meticulously prepares for his shoots by working with local guides who have an in-depth knowledge of the area and animal behavior. Initial scouting excursions help Kaziras identify potential views and understand changing light conditions. He carefully plans the composition and waits patiently for the perfect moment to connect with his subject.

In his recent projects, such as the New-York Dream series, Kaziras focuses on capturing the soul of cities. Using a compact camera, he takes spontaneous snapshots that reveal the essence of urban life.

Publications and Artistic Style

Kaziras has published his photographs in books and limited edition prints. He has a particular fondness for black and white photography, appreciating its timeless quality and its ability to elevate his subjects.
