Bertrand DELAIS: Nature Reimagined Through Photography

In the fibers of Japanese paper, Bertrand DELAIS uncovers the imprint of a tree within a landscape, the gentle caress of rose petals, and the blue of a hill under twilight light. Nature becomes his primary subject, depicted in borderless spaces where color and material harmonize. Bertrand DELAIS pushes the boundaries of photography by making clean cuts, playing with mirror reflections, and extending the film’s sensitivity to its limits until its grain disappears. These experiments have guided him toward an aerial, painterly style that occasionally flirts with abstraction. The texture of the photographic print creates the illusion of a lost watercolor, despite everything being the result of photography. Bertrand DELAIS took the time to study the still lifes of the Musée d’Orsay and absorb the works of Saul Leiter and Sarah Moon.
